Zcash Ironwood in LeoDex — what changed and what you need to do

关键要点

  • •Your address did not change, your funds are safe, and for most people there is nothing to do — LeoDex handles the upgrade automatically.
  • •LeoDex will never ask for your seed phrase. No legitimate service needs your seed to migrate anything.
  • •There is no deadline. The Orchard pool never expires — migrate on your schedule, not a scammer's urgency.

The short version

On July 28, 2026, Zcash activated the Ironwood upgrade (NU6.3). LeoDex already supports it fully. Your address did not change, your funds are safe, and for most people there is nothing to do — LeoDex handles the upgrade automatically.

What Ironwood is

In May 2026, researchers found a bug in Zcash's "Orchard" shielded pool that could — in theory — have let an attacker counterfeit shielded coins. It was patched within days, but because shielded pools are private, nobody can prove counterfeiting never happened. The community's answer: seal the Orchard pool (money can leave, but never enter again) and open a fresh pool named Ironwood that starts at zero, making Zcash's total supply verifiable again. Ironwood notes are also quantum-recoverable: if quantum computers ever break today's cryptography, Ironwood funds can be recovered — funds left in older pools cannot.

What LeoDex does automatically

  • Your address stays the same. Payments to your unified address now arrive in the Ironwood pool — senders and you see nothing different.
  • Shielding goes to Ironwood. The Shield button moves public ZEC straight into the new pool (and no longer needs a 51 MB download).
  • Old shielded funds upgrade themselves. With Auto-shield enabled (Settings → Zcash), your legacy Sapling balance moves into Ironwood in small background steps. You can also tap Upgrade to Ironwood on the Zcash screen to do a batch immediately.
  • The balance never "disappears." While funds upgrade, the Zcash screen shows the split (✦ Ironwood · Legacy) so you always see where money sits.

Restoring a wallet from Ywallet, Zodl/Zashi, or Cake

If you restore a seed phrase from another wallet, it may hold funds in the sealed Orchard pool. LeoDex detects them, shows them under "Legacy Orchard", and offers Migrate safely — a migration that follows the community standard (ZIP 318):

  • Your balance moves in standard-sized pieces on a randomized schedule over several hours. Every wallet following the standard uses the same piece sizes and timing rules, so your transfers blend into the crowd instead of fingerprinting your exact balance on-chain.
  • You see the full plan — pieces, fees, timing — and must approve it before anything moves. You can cancel any time before the first transfer sends.
  • Keep the app open while it runs; it resumes automatically if you restart.

What's public during migration: only the standard piece sizes and their timing — identical for every migrating wallet. Your addresses, history, and remaining balance stay shielded.

Security notes

  • LeoDex will never ask for your seed phrase. Scammers are actively impersonating "Ironwood migration support" across the Zcash community. No legitimate service needs your seed to migrate anything.
  • There is no deadline. The Orchard pool never expires — migrate on your schedule, not a scammer's urgency.
  • Explorer websites may label things oddly for a while (the transaction format is brand new). LeoDex decodes its own transactions directly from the network.

常见问题

Do I need a new address?

No. Same address, upgraded behind the scenes.

Is my old Sapling money at risk?

No — it's simply in an older pool. Upgrading it to Ironwood adds quantum recoverability and keeps you in the pool the ecosystem is standardizing on.

Why do my migration transfers look like round numbers?

That's the privacy design: round standard sizes are shared with every other migrating wallet, so no transfer can be traced back to your specific balance.
